Folklore in Porto Alegre in Brazilie

'Farroupilha Week' in Porto Alegre is het festival in september dat de stad de hele week in haar ban houdt. Dit staat er over in de lokale gids: 'A Guacho Spectacular of music and typical dance of Pampas. Sample traditional foods and a enjoy grand parade. Enjoy lots of traditional local folk dancing and full hearted singing. Like the North American cowboy, gauchos are generally reputed to be strong, silent types, but arrogant, and capable of violence when provoked.  There is, perhaps, more of an air of melancholy about the classic gaucho than the classic cowboy. Also like the cowboy, the gauchos were great horsemen. Typically, a gaucho's horse constituted most of what he owned in the world.
The gaucho diet is composed almost entirely of beef. Gauchos dressed quite distinctly from North American cowboys, and used boleadoras (three leather bound rocks tied together with approximately three feet long leather straps).'
