Marcel Dzama
Marcel Dzama maakt tekeningen met vaak dubbelzinnige relaties tussen figuren, objecten en situaties. Vreemde, bizarre figuren tekent hij op een bijna naive en humoristische manier. Dzama?s tekeningen zijn door verschillende (stylistische) bronnen beinvloed van de geklede, geciviliseerde dieren in de laat-Victoriaanse kinderboeken van Beatrix Potter, de MTV collages tot de striptekeningen van Chester Brown en de ?underground cartoonist? Carlos Zefiro. Maar ook is zijn werk beinvloed door films en literatuur zoals hij zelf zegt:
?I find that most of my ideas tend to be influenced by literature or by film. Recently I read Dante's Inferno, and found myself subconsciously drawing some of its imagery.
I have also watched several movies about Nosferatu and Dracula that have undoubtedly found their way into my work.
I keep a sketchpad with me at all times. When an idea comes to me I like to quickly sketch it out so I can use it later.
Usually the best ideas happen right before I fall asleep. I have a sketchpad beside my bed and even at times have to use a flashlight so I will remember it?.
